About GitHub

GitHub is a platform for hosting and collaborating on software code. Available at github.com and owned by Microsoft, it uses the Git version control system to help developers store code, track changes and work together.

For developers, GitHub suits individuals and teams who want to manage projects in repositories. Features such as pull requests, code review and issue tracking help people propose changes, discuss them and keep work organised.

GitHub is the home of a large share of the world's open-source software. Anyone can browse public projects, report problems, suggest improvements and contribute code, which makes it a central place for the developer community.

The platform also offers automation through GitHub Actions, project boards, package hosting, security tools and GitHub Copilot, an AI coding assistant. Companies use it to manage private codebases at scale.

The platform therefore supports several related uses, from personal coding projects and open-source collaboration to professional software development. Its official website is https://github.com/.

  WordPress.com

WordPress.com is a hosted website builder and blogging platform run by Automattic. Available at wordpress.com, it uses the open-source WordPress software and handles hosting, security and updates for users. For personal use, WordPress.com suits people who want to start a blog, portfolio or simple website without managing servers. Users can choose a theme, write posts and pages, and publish quickly with a free or paid plan. As needs grow, paid plans add custom domains, more storage, plugins, advanced design options and e-commerce features. This allows a small blog to grow into a business website or online store. WordPress.com is different from WordPress.org, where people download the same software to host themselves. Both share the large WordPress ecosystem of themes and plugins that power a significant share of websites. The platform therefore supports several related uses, from personal blogging to building professional and business websites. Its official website is https://wordpress.com/.
