About Wikipedia

Wikipedia is a free online encyclopedia written and edited collaboratively by volunteers around the world. Available at wikipedia.org, it contains millions of articles in hundreds of languages and is run by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation.

For readers, Wikipedia suits anyone looking for an overview of a topic, from history and science to people, places and popular culture. Articles are organised with summaries, sections and links to related topics, making it easy to explore further.

Anyone can contribute. Volunteers write and improve articles, following policies that require a neutral point of view and citations to reliable sources. Discussion pages and edit histories show how each article has developed over time.

Wikipedia is funded mainly by donations and does not run advertising. Its content is freely licensed, so it is widely reused, and Wikipedia articles frequently appear near the top of search results.

The platform therefore supports several related uses, from quick fact-checking and research to contributing knowledge as a volunteer. Its official website is https://www.wikipedia.org/.
